Ford Gets on Board with Fuel Efficiency
Posted by OneChange | November 11, 2010

On October 10, the One Change team made its way to Windsor for the Ford Essex Engine Plant blitz. We were there to help inform Ford employees about the choices they can make to protect the environment, including using one of our free digital tire gauges to help maintain correct tire pressure. It was all part of our fuel efficiency campaign, which is sponsored by Canadian Tire.

“We had two amazing volunteers from the plant who helped distribute tire gauges,” says Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator Bethany Johnson. “It really helped us reach the other employees because they were able to see their co-workers getting behind One Change and lending their support, and I think that made a big difference.”

Our wonderful volunteers were Dave Cecile and Troy Brian (pictured here in front, left to right). As Environmental Representative at the Ford Essex Engine Plant, Troy was very keen to get involved with our campaign. “I like the idea that simple actions matter and can make a big difference,” he says. “A lot of people don’t realize that they can help the environment. I think it’s important to plant the seed for change and to hope it expands exponentially. Together, we do make a difference.”

Troy and Dave worked like a well-oiled machine. They approached plant employees during shift change, making sure that everyone got their free digital tire gauge and understood the benefits of maintaining correct tire pressure—including saving money and gas, improving safety, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The men also picked up extra tire gauges to distribute during the midnight shift.

“Troy and Dave did such a great job of inspiring the other employees,” says Bethany. “You’d think they’d been doing this all their lives! Even during shift change when people are eager to get home, the plant employees stuck around to hear what Troy and Dave were up to.”

By the end of the day, our team engaged in 400 conversations about fuel efficiency with plant employees. The blitz was a huge hit, thanks in large part to our outstanding volunteers, and to the dedication every Ford employee showed to going green. A big kudos goes out to the Essex Engine Plant for proving that each one of us has the power to make a difference.
