Knowledge is Power for Volunteer Razzat Sivia
Posted by OneChange | November 15, 2010

Windsor’s Razzat Sivia (pictured here) didn’t need One Change to tell her about the importance of fuel efficiency. A member of the Riverside Secondary School Green Team, Razzat is well aware of the negative impact greenhouse gases have on our environment.

What Razzat did need One Change for was to give her the opportunity to share her knowledge with other people in her community.

“One of my teachers was involved with (One Change) and she introduced me and my class to the fuel efficiency campaign,” says Razzat. Eager to show her friends and neighbours how they can make smart choices that protect the environment, the Grade 11 student signed up to volunteer for our Windsor blitz. She and her classmates went door-to-door throughout the area, delivering free digital tire gauges and spreading the message that simple actions matter.

After the blitz, Razzat wanted to do more. She volunteered for our Windsor East Canadian Tire event on November 7 and 8. “I told customers about the tire gauges and the benefits they offer—to the customers as well as to the environment,” she says.

Razzat did a fantastic job of engaging shoppers, helping them understand that something as simple as checking their tire pressure monthly will enable them to save money and gas, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. She also made sure that our other volunteers benefited from the experience she’d gained during the door-to-door blitz, passing on useful tips and best practices for public speaking—something she’d recently learned.

“During all the volunteer experience, I improved my communication skills,” says Razzat. “Now, I can’t wait to volunteer again for (One Change).”

We can’t wait to welcome Razzat back as a volunteer. It never hurts to have support from someone who appreciates the importance of increasing awareness and spreading knowledge.
