Some people wait around for opportunity to come their way. Other people actively seek it out. Omowunmi Victoria Dawodu (pictured here) is the type to go looking.
The Windsor resident was searching through the local volunteer database when she discovered the One Change fuel efficiency campaign. “I decided to apply because I love contributing to the development of the community,” says Omowunmi.
Once she was signed on as a volunteer, Omowunmi took the opportunity to lend a hand at many of our events. She was a huge help at our Windsor Canadian Tire event, providing shoppers with a free digital tire gauge and empowering them with the knowledge and tools they need to make smart choices that protect the environment.
“I was able to meet people and learn how to communicate without being too shy, as I am a little bit shy,” says Omowunmi.
Of all her One Change volunteer contributions, Omowunmi feels that delivering free digital tire gauges door-to-door throughout Windsor was the most rewarding. It gave her the chance to chat with people about the benefits of maintaining proper tire pressure, and help spread the word that each person can make a difference. “Telling people that simple actions matter was really an exciting opportunity for me,” she says.
Throughout her time with One Change, Omowunmi has shown great leadership skills. She was always happy to share her knowledge with other volunteers, even going so far as to help train some of them. Omowunmi is clearly dedicated to the cause, so it’s no surprise that she’s still seeking other ways of giving back. “I’m looking for another opportunity to volunteer with One Change for any other campaign in Windsor,” she says.
Omowunmi is definitely not one to sit around and wait for change to happen on its own.
