Metro Ottawa (Ottawa, ON): One Change can make all the difference
Gas prices in Ottawa are soaring again, leaving residents wondering how they can save money on fuel wherever they can.
That’s where One Change comes in. The Ottawa-based non-profit organization blitzed the streets of downtown Thursday, handing out free tire gauges.
If each person takes a little step like this, it will snowball into something bigger as more people do it, said Angel Ouellet, after receiving the tire gauge on Sparks Street.
Campaign manager Lara Wong was one of several staff who taught people how to use the gauges and how they can save on fuel.
“It’s easy and people don’t realize that,” said Wong.
The numbers
Driving with properly filled tires can save over $600 million worth of fuel per year in Canada.
Tires naturally lose pressure over time — as much as two pounds of pressure per month.
Canadian drivers waste enough fuel each year to fill 257 Olympic-sized swimming pools because their tires are underinflated.
One Change distributed more than 13,000 tire gauges last year as a pilot project.
